The Hungerford Games Trail Race

The Hungerford Games Trail Race is a complex of races on trails through the Manistee National Forest. Finishers will get the world’s only handmade wooden finisher’s medal. Hungerford is wonderfully varied: hills and plains, single track and double track, lonely gravel roads, dirt, sand and mud.

Race Info

The course is a mix of hills, plains, sand, dirt, dual track, singletrack and gravel. There will be 6 aid stations on the course. Half marathon runners will hit 4 stations, marathon runners 7, and ultra runners 13. 

All finishers will get the world’s only hand-branded woodallion. If the participants of 50M race finish before sunset, they will receive a coveted hiking stick. The top three men and women in each race will get a wooden trophy. The top 3 finishers in each age group will have a large beautiful coffee mug. Also all participants will receive a new T-shirt and a variety of great souvenirs.

September usually sees the lowest temperatures and the second wettest month of the year in Big Rapids, with just under 4 inches of rainfall per month. On race day the average low is 42ºF and the average high is 66ºF. No dogs are allowed.

You can find the course map and description here: google.com. All three trails are challenging. There are a lot of hills. The sandy sections slow you down, but most of the distance is a nice dirt road. The terrain will be challenging and can be very challenging if the weather is unusually wet or dry.
