The Portland Marathon has been held since 1972 and takes place on a loop course, which in recent years has been dubbed “The Best Race in October”. The course is mostly flat, with a few hilly sections. The event consists of the marathon, half marathon and Kid’s race, which is free for the first 500 children.

Race Info
Races will be run using electronic timing chips attached to the back of the BIB. The top 3 women and men in each race will be determined by gun time. On the full marathon course, there will be aid stations every two miles for the first half of the course (1 to 13 miles) and every mile for the second half (13 to 26 miles). Thus, full marathon runners will pass 19 aid stations during the race. On the half marathon course there will be aid stations every two miles on the first part of the course (1 to 5 miles) and aid stations every mile on the second part of the course (5 to 13 miles). Thus, half marathon participants will pass 11 aid stations during the race.
In case of cold weather, participants are encouraged to bring warm clothing that can be worn in the waiting area and removed before the start of the race. After the finish line, runners may pick up their bag of belongings by showing their bib number. Registration for the Kid’s race is free for the first 500 children. All participants will receive a finisher’s ribbon, a T-shirt and a BIB with a timing chip attached. Strollers are allowed, but they will be lined up in the back at the start.
Pacemakers will participate in the full and half marathons. The course time limit for the full marathon is based on a pace of 15:00 minutes per mile – 6,33 hours. Average temperatures on the race day are a minimum of 50 degrees and a maximum of 67 degrees. The probability of precipitation on the race day is approximately 25%.
