Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon

The Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon is the season’s premier kick-off race, held in the historic Olympic Village of Lake Placid, New York, USA, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Each year the registration for the event closes when the number of participants in the Lake Placid half marathon and marathon reaches 2000.

Race Info

The half marathon is one loop out and back and a marathon is two loops out and back. The course is a combination of flat terrain, elevation changes and hills with an elevation gain of 1,393 feet for the full marathon. There are 26 well-stocked aid stations at the marathon. The time limit is 6 hours for each race. Athletes 13 years and older are allowed to participate in the half marathon.

The first aid station has only water. The rest of the aid stations are equipped with water, sports drinks, fruit, pretzels and other food items. Free food and drinks after the race are available near the finish line (for participants only).

Walkers are allowed, but they must give way to runners on the course. Dogs are not allowed on the course. All marathon and half marathon finishers receive a high quality Lake Placid Marathon medal.

The marathon is two out and back loops, begins on Main Street in Lake Placid and ends on a 400-meter open oval skating track. The course is a combination of flat terrain, drops and some hills.
