The Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon is a run on a very gradual climb at the entrance to the National Park. It is a scenic run through the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Tennessee – North Carolina border. Over the course of the race, the climb will be only about 130 feet.

Race Info
Along the way, runners will experience a very gradual ascent for 13,1 miles, accompanied by some small hills. For most of the course, the climb will be barely perceptible, as participants will start about 880 feet above sea level and finish at just under 1,100 feet.
The course will be open and there will be cars on the road as well as runners. There are areas on the main roads where traffic can be heavy. The course will be well marked, but competitors need to stay to the right of traffic and be courteous and considerate of cars and other competitors.
All participants will have 4 hours to complete the race. That’s 18 minutes per mile – enough time to walk. Results of the race will be available 20 minutes after the end of the race. Photos from the half marathon will be free for participants. Participants can expect a humid climate and a gradual ascent uphill.
