The Deseret News Marathon, first held in 1970, is the oldest road race in Utah with more than 2,500 runners in all races combined each year. This distance is designed with a personal record in mind.

Race Info
The marathon begins at the top of Big Mountain above the canyon and descends to an elevation of 3,200 feet. The 5K race is open to the entire family (children 14 and under can also participate at a discounted price).
Bags and a pencil to write down your bib number will be handed out at the start line and will be taken to the finish line to be picked up.
The top 3 men and women of the full marathon, half marathon and 10K will receive cash prizes. Only Utah residents are eligible to receive prize money. All finishers will receive custom-made finisher’s medals. Prize medals will also be awarded to the top three competitors in each age group.
Pacers for the half marathon and marathon will be provided. Bananas, grapes, cookies and water will be at the finish line.

You can find the course map and description here: run.deseret.com. The marathon course is USATF certified and qualifies for Boston. A half marathon with a gradual 1,600 feet drop in elevation. Runners descend into the canyon on a gentle descent. The 10K is the fastest course and has a gradual 600 feet drop in elevation.
