The Black Bear Half Marathon & 8k is Western North Carolina’s most popular fall half marathon and 8K. The event course is a scenic, mostly flat course along the Oklawaha Greenway. The half marathon has less than 400 feet of elevation gain. Both races will finish at the same location in Hendersonville, North Carolina at Jackson Park.

Race Info
What is included in the cost of participation in the race: long sleeve T-shirt, finisher’s medal for all participants, gift bag, chip timing, well-marked course, unique prizes for overall and age group winners. Water, soft drinks, isotonics and energy gels will be provided on the course.
The overall male and female winners, male and female age group winners (in both races) will be awarded mugs. Winners in age groups who took 2nd and 3rd places will receive a special prize. Cash prizes will be awarded: 1st place overall (male and female) – $100, 2nd place – $75, 3rd place – $50.
Due to limited space and the fact that the roads used will be open to traffic, dogs and strollers are not allowed to participate. The time of the course is until noon. There is also the option of a virtual half marathon and 8K run for those unable to participate in an in-person event. All virtual participants will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and finisher’s medal.
